Nicole Horston hails from Mansfield, OH. One of her fondest memories of being unstoppable was earning the title of Miss Black Mansfield in 1990. Upon high school commencement, Horston received a BS in Education from The Ohio State University and met her husband of 25 years, Antwan L. Horston. Nicole received her M.Ed. in Education Administration from Ashland University and an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from the Franciscan University of Steubenville. Committed to inner-city schools, Mrs. Horston developed a love for helping her pupils, pre-service teachers, and fellow educators become the best version of themselves. Nicole's extensive research on closing the student achievement gap led to a "Teacher of the Year" nomination in 2011 and several accolades from her state. In 2012, her school district honored Horston with a Certificate of Appreciation for saving a colleague's life.

Fibromyalgia won the match, but not the war. As a result of her struggle, Nicole learned to embrace her reality and enjoy the subtleties of life. Additionally, coming face-to-face with a career coming to an end, the feeling that her life was over, and wrestling with the attitude, “Where do I start from here?” deepens her desire to support and further women who have suffered a similar quandary. Forging onward, Nicole created the Shades of You Series to offer a nonjudgmental platform that will enlighten and empower women who feel as if life has dealt them a deadly blow. Still, they possess the desire to heal themselves and rise better than ever.

Lifting others as she climbs: In 2016, Nicole successfully completed John’s Maxwell 21 Irrefutable

Laws of Leadership, a course designed to train 21st Century Leaders to add value to the lives of others.  As a lover of people, Mrs. Horston has dedicated her time, talent, and treasure to upset the status quo. She puts her words into action by volunteering within her community to causes that are dear to her heart. This year, she created two signature programs, "Beautiful Me" and Destined4Greatness, mentoring programs geared toward middle school students.

Nicole currently serves as the Director of Black Women Networking, Ohio. As a member of the Order of the Eastern Star’s Chapter, Queen of the South #22, the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, and The Federated Chapter of Ladies of Serenity she supports each organization’s mission to eradicate barriers that impact women and children. Ms. Horston is the past President of the National Association of Professional Women, Mansfield, OH chapter and President of the Beta Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
